SparkShop is a nonprofit bringing engineering concepts into the classroom of Chicago’s lowest income schools, inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals.

What sets SparkShop apart is its focus on education equity: 92% of SparkShop students are non-white, and 51% are girls.

As Creative Consultant, Content Designer, and Associate Board Member, I craft copy and press materials to inspire students, garner donations, and engage a web and social audience. My latest undertaking is optimizing their website (which was hastily written by a team of mechanical engineers before I joined… We’re working on it!)

COVID changed everything.
So did we.

When schools closed, we pivoted our entire curriculum to a remote format, and launched a digital and print activity guide to help students discover engineering in their favorite things to do. Based on their preferences, fun activities are provided to build upon those skills.

We also created and distributed the SparkShop Toolkit, filled with toys, puzzles, and challenges to stimulate minds of tomorrow’s STEM geniuses
